MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (0-2) lost a 6-1 bout to Auburn University at Montgomery (3-4) Sunday at the Centennial Center Courts.
Doubles action was a sweep for the Warhawks.
In the first slot, Matt Rogel (Sautron, France) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) teamed for a 6-3 loss to David Rieme and Joao Guariente.
Second doubles was a 6-2 defeat for Jack Sorel (Alpharetta) and Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) by Francisco Jimenez and Jose Garcia. In the third slot, Cole Heller (Woodstock) and Jesus Villamizar Abia (Venezuela) dropped a 6-3 score to David Mulas and Jonathan Judy-Hansen.
The lone team point came in a thriller at first singles, where Rogel came from behind to edge Riene in three sets. After being down 6-1 in the first set, Rogel took the other two in extras, 7-6[4] and 7-6[5]. Rogel moves to 1-1 on the season.
In the second slot, Villamizar Abia lost to Guariente 6-2, 6-2. Third singles provided a 6-2, 6-3 defeat for Sorel by Jimenez. In the fourth line, Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) went to three sets with Adrien Guye in a loss, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Fifth singles saw Sergi edged in three as well, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. Another three setter came in sixth singles, a loss for Sebastian Nunez (Buford) to Garcia, 6-3, 6-1, 14-12.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 5 at 2 p.m., hosting Emmanuel College.
