MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (0-2) fell 6-1 to Auburn University at Montgomery (2-2) Sunday at the Centennial Center Courts.
The two teams battled through doubles action, the Bobcats nabbing a win in the first slot but losing the other two to surrender the doubles point.
Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) teamed for a 6-3 win in the first slot, topping Sofia Navarro and Maria Casas. Richter and Fleming improve to 1-1 on the season.
Second doubles was a battle as well, Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Jordan Bowie (Macon) getting edged 6-4 by Alba de la Torre and Tonja Foessmeier. The third doubles pairing of Emily Pope (Canton) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) lost to Sofia Mustre, Julia Enderink, 6-1.
In singles action, Yatribi provided the team point for the Bobcats, nearly shutting out de la Torre in the second slot 6-0, 6-1. Yatribi improves to 1-1.
Richter gave Navarro a fight in the first slot, falling 6-2, 6-3. In third singles, Fleming lost 6-1, 6-3 to Casas. Bowie came close in both 7-5 sets in fourth singles, losing to Mustre.
In the fifth slot, Morrison lost to Enderink in a pair of 6-3 sets, while Pope was shut out in the sixth flight by Isabella Pinto.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 5 at 2 p.m., hosting Emmanuel College.
