Bobcat Women's Tennis Outlasts Emmanuel, 4-3

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –  With an extra bit of toughness Friday, the Georgia College Women's Tennis team (2-2) evened out its record with a gritty 4-3 win over Emmanuel College (0-4) at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Bobcats pulled in the doubles point for a strong start.

The first doubles result was the third slot, a 6-3 loss for Emily Pope (Canton) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) to Julia Ramos and Kristina Khmelevskaia. GC then rebounded with a victory in the first line to even it out, as Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) beat Elisa Man-Hsuang Weng and Alejandra Guerrero 6-4.

It took extra points, but Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Jordan Bowie (Macon) got past Maria Raich and Lauren Castillon 7-6[5] to earn the team point. Richter and Fleming move to a team-best 3-1 on the season.

Fleming put GC up 2-0, making short work of Weng in third singles 6-2, 6-4. Losses in the next two brought things even. Yatribi lost a 6-4, 6-3 bout with Guerrero in second singles, and Richter fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the first slot to Raich.

Bowie put GC back in front, taking down Marta Rosados Barreiro 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth slot. After Pope fell to Selina Donecker 6-0, 6-2 to even things at 3-3, it all came down to the freshman Morrison in the fifth line. There, she took straight sets from Zyanya Rogel in a convincing 6-1, 6-2 fashion to get GC the victory. Morrison, Bowie and Fleming all improve to 2-2 in singles play.

The win gave head coach Steve Barsby 599 in his tennis coaching career, setting up the men's finish for a potential milestone.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 9 at 2 p.m., traveling to Brenau University.
