MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (6-6, 3-3 PBC) evened out its record with a 6-1 win over Georgia Southwestern State University (4-5, 0-5 PBC) Monday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats took the doubles point with victories in the first and second slots.
Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) beat Hannah Hogg and Andrea Cervantes Bustamante in the first slot 6-1. The Bobcat duo improved to 8-4 on the season.
In second doubles, Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) topped Sophia Winters and Coraline Lamer by a 6-3 score to clinch the doubles point. Bowie and Morrison now own a 2-3 record in doubles.
On the third line the Hurricanes got a victory, as Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Emily Pope (Canton) teamed for a 6-2 loss to Bianca Leao and Maya Boynton.
In singles, the Bobcats got five of the six matches. Results started in the fourth slot, where Bowie beat Boynton in a near-shutout, 6-1, 6-0. GC moved to a 3-0 team score with Richter's victory in the second slot, cooling off Winters 6-2, 6-0. Yatribi clinched the team victory with her win in first singles, 6-0, 6-2 over Hogg.
Next came fifth singles, a 6-1, 6-3 victory for Morrison over Lamer. On the third line, Fleming edged Bustamante 6-4, 6-2, and in sixth singles, Pope fell to Leao in a pair of 6-4 sets.
The win puts the GC Women at 3-3 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, good for fifth in the league standings. The top four schools qualify for the PBC Tournament, beginning April 28.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 14 at 2 p.m., hosting Augusta University.
