MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (8-6, 5-3 PBC) closed the regular season in style, beating Francis Marion University (4-11, 2-6 PBC) and clinching a postseason berth on Senior Day at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats got off on the right foot with a doubles sweep to start 1-0.
Junior Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and sophomore Emma Fleming (Suwanee) teamed for a dominant 6-1 effort over Viktoria Leth and Hermon Mikael in the first slot. Second doubles saw sophomore Jordan Bowie (Macon) and freshman Ashton Morrison (Cumming) beat Eva Zannier and Gabriel Karatantcheva 6-2.
Third doubles was also a 6-2 win, as seniors Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Emily Pope (Canton) beat Camryn Cassetori and Nargiza Yakhyaeva. Fleming and Richter are a team-best 10-4, while Bowie and Morrison improve to 3-4 and Pope and Yatribi get their first win, now owning a 1-3 record.
FMU evened the team score with the first singles finish, as Richter lost to Leth 6-4, 6-2 in second singles. Fleming then beat Zannier in a pair of 6-3 sets. Yatribi put the Bobcats a point away from the win at 3-1 with her 6-2, 7-5 win over Mikael in the first slot.
The clinching point came from the fifth line, where Morrison beat Cassetori by shutout. Pope then fell by shutout to Yakhyaeva and the day ended in fourth singles, where Bowie beat Karatantcheva 7-6, 6-0.
The win puts the GC Women at 5-3 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, clinching a spot for the PBC Tournament, beginning April 28.
