Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Taking on their highest-ranked opponent of the season Sunday, the Georgia College Softball team (9-23, 3-13 PBC) fell twice to No. 3 University of North Georgia (25-5, 9-1 PBC) 12-0 and 9-1 at the Peeler Complex.
In the first game the Bobcats had trouble solving the riddle that was Kylee Smith. The 2019 Ron Lenz National Pitcher of the Year tossed a no-hitter, spinning five innings with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts.
Freshman starter Golden Thrower (Hannahan, South Carolina) hung with her for the first two scoreless innings, but the Nighthawks broke through with a three-run home run from Margaret Simmons in the third and a three-run home run from Shelby Hammontree in the fourth, never looking back. Thrower (2-9) took the loss with three innings of work.
In game two, the Bobcats took an early lead in the bottom of the first, a run coming in on a bases-loaded walk. Laken Chambers entered after the run in the first and closed down the Bobcat bats for 5 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Bobcats managed four hits in game two, including a double from Ashley Schell (Cumming). Simmons ripped a solo shot to left center in the fourth, giving the Nighthawk shortstop three home runs over the two games.
Sophomore starter MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn) took the loss (4-10) going 2 1/3 innings.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, April 25 at 3 p.m., hosting USC Aiken for Senior Day.
