YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (2-4, 0-2 PBC) ran into a buzzsaw at Young Harris College (5-7, 2-2 PBC), falling 6-1 Friday.
The Mountain Lions got the doubles point with victories in the second and third slots.
Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) and Sebastian Nunez (Buford) teamed for a 6-1 match to start the day, falling to John Brett and Herman Ronnbergin the second slot. In third doubles, Cole Heller (Woodstock) and Jack Sorel (Alpharetta) lost to Romeo Luque and Eric DelValle in a tough 6-4 battle.
Playing through, the Bobcats got a win in first doubles where Matt Rogel (Sautron, France) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) outlasted Ignacio Ascarrunz and Kash Reddiyar 7-6[6]. The Bobcat pair now owns a 3-3 record.
Singles results started in the second slot, as Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) fell to Rodrigo Mendoza 6-0, 6-1. In third singles, Sorel lost a 6-2, 6-3 matchup to Ascarrunz. Next came a loss in first singles, where Rogel came up short to Reddiyar 7-6[6], 6-4 to clinch the team victory.
Zavrel lost his fourth slot match to Brett 6-2, 7-5, then Sergi helped the Bobcats crack the win column. The Bobcat rookie took the first set 6-3, then DelValle evened it out with a 6-4 set of his own. In the third, Sergi got the victory with a 10-5 effort. Sergi improved to 3-2 with the victory. The Bobcats then finished the day with a 6-4, 6-1 loss from Jesus Villamizar Abia (Venezuela) to Luque in the fifth slot.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, April 5 at 2 p.m., traveling to No. 22 University of North Georgia.
