DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (2-5, 0-3 PBC) came up empty in an upset bid at No. 22 University of North Georgia (8-1, 4-0 PBC) 7-0 Monday.
The Nighthawks swept doubles play to start. In the first slot, Matt Rogel (Sautron, France) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) lost to Ryan Gaskin and Kevin Candido 6-1. Second doubles brought another 6-1 loss, this time for Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) and Sebastian Nunez (Buford) to Zach Waldow and Joaquin Benoit. Cole Heller (Woodstock) and Jack Sorel (Alpharetta) posted the closest of the doubles matches, falling 6-3 to Jared Bones and Giulio Sassi.
Singles finishes started in the third slot, where Sorel lost to Waldow 6-1, 6-0. In second doubles, Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) lost to Benoit 6-1, 6-2. First singles brought the team victory point, as Rogel fell to Gaskin 6-0, 6-2.
In fourth singles, Zavrel lost to Sassi 6-1, 6-4, while the fifth slot featured Sergi getting edged by Candido 6-0, 6-3. The day came to a close in the sixth slot, a pair of 6-1 sets in a loss for Ben Grunert (Roswell) to Tim Keihl.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, April 6 at 1 p.m., playing host to No. 1 Columbus State University.
