MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Taking on back-to-back top-15 teams, the Georgia College Women's Tennis team (4-6, 1-3 PBC) lost 7-0 to No. 13 Columbus State University (11-3, 6-0 PBC) Tuesday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats took the fight to CSU in doubles, including a win in the first slot.
Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) beat Beatriz Lopez and Candice Paya 6-3. The Bobcat duo improved to 7-3 on the season, topping a squad that was previously undefeated in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
In second doubles, Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) lost to Valentina Abrile and Sara Ramirez Goncalves via shutout. The third slot brought a 6-2 loss for Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Emily Pope (Canton) to Amanda Citre and Luise Sachs.
In singles, the Bobcats took on a pair of ranked players. In the first slot, Richter fell to No. 17 Lopez 6-3, 6-0 and in second singles Yatribi nearly took a lead, dropping a 7-5, 6-2 matchup with No. 10 Sachs. In third singles, Fleming lost to Abrile 6-2, 6-3.
Fourth singles featured a pair of 6-2 sets and a loss for Bowie to Citre. In fifth singles, Morrison nearly forced a third set with a 6-2, 7-6 effort, falling to Ramirez Goncalves. On the sixth line, Pope lost to Yelena Labat 6-1, 6-0.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m., traveling to Lander University.
