GC Baseball Splits Rare PBC Mid-Week Doubleheader at FMU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FLORENCE, S.C. – In a make-up of a washed out series from earlier this year, the Georgia College Baseball team (14-12, 12-11 PBC) split a doubleheader at Francis Marion University (13-12, 11-12 PBC) Wednesday, dropping the first game 14-6 before rebounding in the nightcap 8-5.

In game one, the Patriots used big fourth and fifth innings to take over. FMU entered the bottom of the fourth down 3-0, but scored four runs that inning and five more in the fifth to take control of the game.

For the Bobcats, second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) went 3-for-5, while designated hitter Baylin Moore (Albany, Georgia) had a 2-for-4 game with three runs. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta, Georgia) finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored as well.

Bobcat starter Aidan McAllister (Suwanee, Georgia) fell to 0-1 with 4 1/3 innings of work.

Game two was a different story, as the Bobcats used a four-run third to go in front for good. Hill got the scoring started in that frame with a two-run double yanked down the right field line. An error plated the third run, while the fourth came in on a sacrifice fly.

The pitching was strong for GC in game two, as Bryson Smeltzer (Savannah, Georgia) threw five innings with just a single earned run. The righty (1-0) picked up the first win of his Bobcat career, striking out seven over five innings. He turned it over to Brennan Crooms (Metter, Georgia) for three innings with just one earned run, and Garrett Houston (Macon, Georgia) picked up the final three outs.

First baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) had a run-scoring double in the ninth, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Gentry and shortstop Cassius Young (Atlanta, Georgia) each went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 9 at 6 p.m., traveling to Lander University.
