Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Georgia College Softball team (11-25, 5-15 PBC) split at Flagler College (16-18, 9-9 PBC) in the final action of the 2021 season. The Bobcats won game one 10-8 and the Saints rebounded for a 9-0 victory in game two.
There were plenty of runs for both squads in game one where the Bobcats came out on top. GC got the scoring started with a five-run second inning. After an error and a pair of singles loaded the bases, freshman MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face, Georgia) plated the first run with a single to right. Freshman Ashley Schell (Cumming, Georgia) then blasted a pitch to right in the next at-bat. Making the most of her first career home run, Schell posted a grand slam.
Senior Haley Howell (Rochelle, Georgia) added a solo shot in the third for a 6-0 lead. After the Saints cut the lead to 6-5, the Bobcats got a big four-run fifth to push it out further. Sadie Waters (Cumming, Georgia) and Golden Thrower (Hannahan, South Carolina) each had RBI singles in the inning.
Flagler had a three-run fifth of their own, and even had the tying run at second base with no one out. It was there that Thrower kicked it into high gear, setting down the last nine batters in order for the win. Thrower finished with three runs in 3 1/3 with two strikeouts.
She also was trouble at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and the RBI.
The second game went to the Saints in five innings at 9-0, with the Bobcats handcuffed to just four hits by Flagler starter Madelyn Wise. All four hits were singles.
Thrower got the start in game two, going all four innings in the loss, falling to 4-10 for the season.
The Georgia College softball team will be back in action in the spring of 2022. The schedule will be posted on GCBobcats.com at a later date.
