Bobcat Women Downed in Tough Conference Matchup, 47-72

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (5-7, 2-2 PBC) took their second conference loss of the season on the road at Georgia Southwestern State University (10-2, 2-1 PBC), 47-72 Saturday. 

GC took the early lead dropping 15 points in the first quarter to the Hurricanes' 11. Standout freshman Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) netted all six of her points in the first quarter to lead the team. Come the second quarter Georgia Southwestern knocked down 26 points to go into halftime leading 37-26. The Hurricane's Ava Jones shot for 100% behind the three point arc to lead both squads with nine points. 

Both teams started out slow in the second half, scoring a combined 20 points coming out of halftime. GSW forward Simone Lett led the scoring with four points shooting 2-for-2 from field goal range. The Bobcats had three shooters with two points in the quarter. Both squads stepped up the scoring for the final quarter with GSW taking the quarter 24-12. Newcomer Angelina Cofrancesco (Alpharetta) netted a quarter high for GC of three points shooting 50% from the free-throw stripe. 

The night's leading scorer for GC was veteran point guard Harper Vick (Marietta) banking 11 points including a basket from behind the arc, passing the 900 point mark in her career. Vick went 2-for-4 from the free-throw line while adding five rebounds and two assists to her boxscore. Anaya Cone (Douglasville) was the second leading scorer, knocking in eight points. Cone also nabbed three rebounds and an assist. 

Freshman Alexa Geary (Calhoun) was the big player in the paint corralling a team high of 13 rebounds. Geary dominated the defensive basket with nine defensive rebounds. She also netted six points, four of which came from the free-throw stripe as she shot 100%.  Jada Warren (Norcross) also made her presence known in the paint, snagging the second-most Bobcat rebounds with six. Warren's box score also included a field goal basket. 

The Bobcats are back in action in the Centennial Center Wednesday Jan. 12 for GC Miracle Night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. against USC Aiken with live stats and video links available at GCBobcats.com.
