FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (1-1) picked up their first win of the young season Friday, clobbering Emmanuel College (1-4) 6-1 on the road.
The Bobcats picked up the doubles point by taking the first and third slots.
Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) and Gabriel Cizek (Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic) teamed for a 7-5 win in the first slot over Nathan Benoit and Joan Grosset. Sebastian Nunez (Buford) and Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) teamed for the first time, clinching the doubles point by taking down Kornel Kimaszewski and Juan Camillo Burgos Torres 6-4 in the third slot.
Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) and Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) lost a 6-4 decision to Thembokwakhe Makhanya and Javier Crespo in the second slot.
Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Valenzuela) picked up a win in his first spring action to start singles play. In the sixth slot, he beat Grosset 6-4, 6-0. Cizek gave GC a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win in second singles over Benoit. Emmanuel then nabbed their lone team point, as Robinson lost to Crespo 6-3, 6-2 in the third slot.
Malirz brought in the team win, handling Makhanya 6-0, 6-4 in the first slot. With the team victory already in hand, Sergi topped Kimaszewski 7-5, 6-3 in fifth singles, and Komada closed the day with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Hassan Hossam Badran.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m., traveling to Division I Mercer University.
