MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Softball squad (2-4) took two wins in vastly different fashion over North Greenville University (1-6) Saturday, 10-1 in five innings and 6-5 in nine innings.
The Bobcats had a plethora of offense in game one of the doubleheader, plating 10 runs to take down the Crusaders in five. Three different Bobcats had multi-base hit games including first baseman Jessica Owens (Social Circle). Owens had two doubles in her three at bats with an impressive four RBI. Carlie Behan (Cumming) had two singles and an RBI, getting the scoring started in the big seven-run third. Designated player Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina) went 2-for-3 with two RBI. The speedy Eliza Kuhne (Sharpsburg) also reached base in two of her three at bats.
Macy Banks (Homer) got her first win in a Bobcat uniform which doubled as the first win of the season. Banks (1-0) allowed one earned run on six hits. She also fanned two batters in her complete-game effort.
The second game of the doubleheader was completed in a nail-biting nine inning walk-off. Brooke Lougher (Suwannee) rifled the game winning double to the right-center fence for her first career walk off. The blast plated Behan, Lougher's second RBI of the contest. Behan reached on a suicide squeeze play to plate Jaycee Haycraft (Louisville) to tie it in the ninth inning. North Greenville took the lead 5-4 in the top of the ninth, setting the table for the come-from-behind win.
Montana Ledbetter (Hanna City, Illinois) got the start in the circle for GC only allowing two earned runs on four hits. She also had four strikeouts in her 3.2 innings of work. Thrower (1-2) picked up her first win of the season, pitching 5.1 innings of relief with zero earned runs on two hits.
