MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Running their win streak to 4-0, the No. 49 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (4-0) won a 6-1 bout with Erskine College (1-2) Saturday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats swept doubles action to start 1-0. Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) won in the first slot 6-3 over Emma Bentz and Szilvia Ferenczy. The second line was a tough one, as Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) escaped with a 7-5 win over Angelina Jacobs and Luize Valtere. Third doubles brought a 6-2 finish for Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) over Rupal Kharb and Czarina Aguirre.
The win moves Bowie and Shing to 4-0 this season.
Fleming finished her singles matchup first, topping Aguirre in a near-shutout, 6-1, 6-0. National No. 44 Shing then beat Bentz in the first slot with a pair of 6-2 sets. Richter clinched the team win with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ferenczy on the second line.
Next came fifth singles, a 6-1, 6-4 win for Bowie over Kharb. The Flying Fleet then got their lone point of the match, as Santoro fell to Valtere 2-6, 6-4, 10-6. Morrison then closed the day, beating Jacobs 6-4, 6-2.
Fleming and Richter both remain perfect in singles at 4-0 on the young season.
The Bobcats move to 3-0 for the first time since 2015. That year, GC started 4-0 and finished 18-7 overall.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m., traveling to Division I Mercer University.
