MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (4-5) left little doubt Tuesday, clobbering Shorter University (5-3) 13-0 at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats had come in averaging just over four runs per game in their prior eight contests, and exploded for 13 runs on 11 hits tonight.
Third baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) got the scoring started in the second, following a Baylin Moore (Albany) single with a two-run blast to left center. The home run was the first in Sapp's Bobcat career.
GC plated four more in the fourth, capped by a two-run double from rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta). The Bobcats then ran away with it in the sixth, scoring seven runs, sending 13 hitters to the plate in the inning.
The pitching was equally impressive, holding the Hawks—a 2021 NCAA Tournament Qualifier—to just five hits. The Bobcats broke up the game between freshmen Reid Robertson (Marietta), Aidan McConnell (Roswell) and Adam Metivier (Woodstock) as well as junior Luc Scudellari (Roswell).
Robertson picked up the win (1-0) with four innings, allowing a single hit with no walks and three strikeouts. McConnell spun three innings, scattering three hits and fanning two. Metivier had a strikeout and walk in his hitless eighth, and Scudellari had some trouble with wildness but left the bases loaded in the ninth.
Grazzini finshed 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run. Second baseman Austin Holloway (Social Circle) was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Moore finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one driven in, while shortstop Dominic Arienzo (Madison) also had two hits in four trips, driving in two and scoring once.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m., playing host to Davis & Elkins College.
