Box Score 2 HARDEEVILLE, S.C.- The Georgia College Softball Team (5-9) split with USC Beaufort (7-7) rebounding from a 8-7 nine-inning loss in game one and to take a 7-4 win in game two Wednesday.
The Bobcats had a single hitter that had multiple hits in each contest. MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face, Georgia) went 2-for-4 in each game. She mustered two singles and a walk in game one. She had a single, an RBI double and a walk in game two.
During the first game, the Bobcat offense scored seven runs on eight hits. Hoffman and Bella Carnes (Cartersville, Georgia) both hit for .500 to lead the offense. Lauren Sommerer (Loganville, Georgia) had two RBI leading the team.
Macy Banks (Homer, Georgia) got the start in the circle for the Bobcats pitching three innings. She allowed two earned runs on four hits and three strikeouts. Montana Ledbetter (Hanna City, Illinois) picked up the loss (0-3). She allowed one earned run on two hits in 1 1/ 3 innings of work.
In the second contest the Bobcat bats heated up late in the game as they plated five runs in the top of the seventh. Hoffman and Sydney Newberry (Springfield, Georgia) both scored twice in the game, accounting for more than half of the team's runs. Freshman Jaycee Haycraft (Louisville, Georgia) got the big seventh inning started, reaching on a walk and stealing second. Senior Carlie Behan (Cumming, Georgia) brought Haycraft across on a successful suicide squeeze play. Newberry then picked up an RBI, reaching base on a fielder's choice. The USCB shortstop fielded the ball and overthrew home plate to bring both runs across. Hoffman then power-slapped a double to plate Newberry and put the Bobcats up 6-4. The final run of the contest scored on a Jessica Owens (Social Circle, Georgia) double to the centerfield fence, scoring Hoffman.
Ledbetter (1-3) got the start and the win in the circle, the first victory of her Bobcat career. She picked up the complete game, allowing four earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
The Bobcats are back in action on the road at No. 19 Anderson University Friday, Feb. 25. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. with live stats and broadcast links available at GCBobcats.com.
