MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (7-1) moved to 7-0 against non-Division I competition and 4-0 at home Thursday, making short work of NAIA opponent Brenau University (2-4), 7-0 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
Doubles was a hard-fought point, with GC getting wins in the first and second slot.
On the first line, Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) teamed for a 6-1 win over MaryWynn Brannon and Bianca Andersen. Brenau then got their victory at third doubles, as Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) and Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) lost to Sally Brannon and Sydney Patterson 6-3. Fleming and Richter are now 5-2 this year as a pairing.
Second doubles decided the point, as Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) outlasted Valentina Pabon and Evelin Gouveia 7-6 [7-2]. The Bobcat duo moves to 2-0 this season.
Singles results came first in the second slot, where Richter buzzed through Gouveia for a 6-0, 6-2 win. Defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) then dropped Patterson 6-1, 6-2 in the sixth slot. Shing clinched the team win by nearly shutting out Andersen in first singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Morrison then beat Sally Brannon in a pair of 6-1 sets, and Fleming topped MaryWynn Brannon 6-1, 6-3. Bowie closed the day in fourth singles, beating Pabon in 6-3, 6-3 fashion.
Morrison stays perfect on the young season at 4-0. Fleming continues to hold the team lead in wins, improving to 6-1.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. eastern, traveling to No. 14 Auburn University Montgomery.
