Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – A blistering second-half run felled the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (21-8) Saturday, losing the opening round of the NCAA Southeast Regional to No. 12 Lincoln Memorial University (26-4) 100-65.
The No. 6-seed Bobcats had four double-digit scorers, but it wasn't enough to combat one of the top offensive squads in the NCAA. GC started strong, leading by as much as 10 at 24-14 at just past the mid-way point of the first half. No. 3-seed LMU used a late first-half surge and carried that into a cold start for GC in half number two to pull away. The Railsplitters went on an 18-7 run to start the second half and kept GC at bay from there.
Senior Jordan Thomas (Conyers) and freshman Luke Chism (Dawsonville) shared the team lead at 12 points, Chism adding seven rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Brandon Thomas (McDonough) added 11 points and junior Wesley Simpson (DeLand, Florida/Union Grove HS [Ga.]) contributed 10 points and six assists.
The Railsplitters shot 56% overall and 54% from long range, knocking down 13 of their 24 three-point attempts. LMU also did a great job on the boards, taking that category 46-27.
The season has come to a close for GC Men's Hoops, one that saw an appearance in the NCAA Regional and 20-plus victories, both for the first time in 12 years. Jordan Thomas earned All-Region status, also joining Simpson on the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Team. Brandon Thomas brought in his second PBC Elite-16 award of his career, a first in program history.
