Bobcat Men's Tennis Drops Home Bout with #7 North Georgia, 7-0

PEACH BELT STANDINGS

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (5-7, 0-3 PBC) took on its second-straight national top-10 opponent Tuesday, falling 7-0 to No. 7 University of North Georgia (11-3, 3-0 PBC) at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Bobcats got a win at third doubles, but UNG took the first and second slots for the doubles point. On the third line, Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) and Gabriel Cizek (Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic) took down Zach Waldow and Connor Evenson, 6-2. The Villamizar Abia/Cizek duo is now 3-1 this spring.

In first doubles, Sebastian Nunez (Buford) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) lost to Joaquin Benoit and Ryan Gaskin, 6-2. The second slot brought a 6-1 loss for Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) and Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) to Cole Brainard and Daniel Ostap.

The Nighthawks then ran the table in singles play. In first singles, Malirz lost to national No. 5 in a pair of 6-4 sets. The second slot was a 6-3, 6-0 loss for Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) to Gaskin. Third singles featured the toughest singles pairing of the day between GC's Robinson and UNG's Waldow. UNG took the first set 6-3, and Robinson evened things out with a 6-2 win in the second. Waldow unfortunately took the tiebreak 10-7 to end the match.

Fourth singles was a 6-0, 6-1 loss for Sergi to Ostap. The fifth line saw Villamizar Abia come up short against Brainard 6-4, 5-4 ret. The sixth slot had Nunez lose to Guilio Sassi 6-4, 6-3.

Mid-way through Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, the Bobcats stand at 0-3, positioned seventh in the league standings. The GC Men have three conference games remaining.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m., playing host to No. 10 Flagler College.
