MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (9-8, 0-2 PBC) dropped two close games to start Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play Saturday, falling to No. 26 Young Harris College (12-5, 2-0 PBC), 5-4 and 4-0 at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats were upended in game one, leading 2-0 and 3-2. After knottin the game at 4-4 in the sixth, YHC picked up a ninth inning run for the victory. GC had the winning run on the bases in the ninth, but couldn't get a clutch hit.
Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) was 2-for-4 with a run. Second baseman Austin Holloway (Social Circle) posted a 2-for-4 effort as well, driving in one and scoring another. Catcher Sam Sly (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
Lefty Jacob Hester (Marietta) took the loss (0-1) despite not surrendering an earned run. He spun two innings, fanning a pair.
Game two was a planned seven-inning affair, with the Mountain Lion starter Nick Lamb tossing a six-hit shutout.
First baseman Mason Spivey (Appling) had a pair of singles in three trips. Davis Swenson (Toccoa) took his first loss as a Bobcat, falling to 2-1 with four runs in five innings. He did tally eight strikeouts.
The Bobcats close the series with Young Harris tomorrow, March 6 at 1 p.m.
