#64 GC Women's Tennis Falls Short in Upset Bid Against #17 Flagler, 5-2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 64 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (13-6, 2-3 PBC) dropped a tough 5-2 bout with No. 17 Flagler College (10-5, 3-0 PBC) Wednesday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Saints picked up the doubles point with wins in the second and third slots. On the second line, Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) teamed for a 6-3 loss to Alessandra Traub and Anika Nissen. Third doubles was a loss for Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) and Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) to Florencia Massardo Brain and Addison S. Breunich, 7-5.

In first doubles, the Bobcats nabbed a massive upset victory. Emma Fleming (Cumming) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) went toe-to-toe with the nation's No. 5 duo of Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf in a marathon. GC picked up the upset win 7-6 [11-9].

Singles finishes started in the second slot. Richter beat Schlagenhauf 6-2, 6-3 to even the team score. Shing then fell to No. 5 Hrda by 6-4, 6-2 in first singles. In the fourth slot, Fleming lost to Nissen 6-3, 6-4 to make the team score 3-1.

Fifth singles provided the team victory point for Flagler, as Morrison lost to Massardo Brain 6-4, 6-3. Santoro then lost to Traub in third singles 6-4, 0-6, 10-6. Bowie closed the day with a win in sixth singles, beating Breunich 7-5, 2-6, 10-6.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 15 at 1 p.m., traveling to No. 55 Lander University.
