MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (24-14, 12-8 PBC) won both ends of a doubleheader Friday at John Kurtz Field against Claflin University (3-22, 0-20 PBC), 7-2 and 10-1.
Game one featured a dominant Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) and three home runs for the Bobcat offense. Hudgins (4-3) spun 8 2/3 of one-hit shutout ball, not walking a single batter and fanning five.
Third baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) got the scoring started with a three-run shot to left in the second inning, his fourth of the season. Catcher Sam Sly (Atlanta) added a two-run shot in the fourth, the first for him this year, and first baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) provided a solo shot in the fifth. Bellflower's blast was his team-leading sixth this season, and eighth of his career.
Sly finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) added two hits, including an RBI triple.
Game two was more of the same, as righty starter Brennan Crooms (Metter) held the Panthers in check. Crooms (5-2) tossed six shutout innings, scattering five hits and a walk, at one point setting down eight in a row. He struck out six.
The only multi-hit performer in game two was second baseman Austin Holloway (Social Circle), going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) drove in four, including three on a bases-clearing double to left in the five-run fifth.
The win puts GC at 12-8, tied for third in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Standings. The top eight qualify for the PBC Tournament, with the top four seeds earning hosting duties for the first round.
The Bobcats and Panthers finish the series tomorrow, April 16 at 1 p.m., with Senior Day festivities beginning at 12:30 p.m.
