#62 Bobcat Women's Tennis Wins at #57 Lander, 5-2

PBC STANDINGS

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 62 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (14-6, 3-3 PBC) evened out its Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record with a win on the road Friday at No. 57 Lander University (13-7, 1-4 PBC), 5-2.

GC got the doubles point with wins in the first and second slots. Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee, Georgia) beat Emily Ineson and Mille Elsborg 6-4 in the first slot. The Bobcat first doubles pair is now 15-5 on the season.

Second doubles was a 6-3 win for Jordan Bowie (Macon, Georgia) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming, Georgia) over Hannah Panchal and Raquel Acco. Bowie and Morrison are now 7-6 as a pair. Third singles was a loss for Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain), 6-3 to Chiara Gerbino and Roberta Armani.

The Bobcats sealed the victory with wins in each of the top four flights of singles.

Shing improved to 11-7 with a win on the top line, beating Gerbino 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a come-from-behind effort. In second singles, national No. 38 Richter topped Maranda Adiar in a pair of 6-3 sets. Richter owns a 13-4 record. Third singles saw Santoro improve to 10-8 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Elsborg.

Fleming won fourth singles, beating Acco in three, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Fleming is a team-best 14-4 in singles play this season.

Morrison came up short in fifth singles against Armani, 6-2, 7-6, and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) lost to Ineson 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the sixth slot.

The win puts GC at 3-3 in PBC play, tied for fourth in the league standings. The Bobcats have one more conference matchup left and it happens to be at the team they are tied with, Augusta University. The GC Women have clinched no lower than a No. 5-seed for the PBC Tournament, starting April 29.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, April 19 at 1 p.m., traveling to No. 30 Augusta.
