COLUMBUS, Ga.- The Georgia College Softball Team (11-30, 3-18 PBC) took a 12-6 loss in game one and a 16-4 six inning loss in game two of a doubleheader at Columbus State University (25-21, 14-7 PBC), Saturday.
The hot bats continued into day two of the series with CSU as the Bobcats were able to plate six runs on nine hits. GC had a big five run top of the fifth inning which cut the score deficit to three. MacKenzie Martin (Dacula) started things off with a single and scored the first run on the Divina Checo (Marietta) two RBI single. Carlie Behan (Cumming) kept it going with a two RBI single of her own to bring the score to 8-4. The final run of the big inning came off the bat of Eliza Kuhne (Sharpsburg) on an infield single. Kuhne led the offensive charge today going 3-for-5 with an RBI. The Bobcat bats went quiet until the top of the seventh inning; the sixth run of the game with Ashley Schell (Cumming) coming around to score on an error by the Cougars.
The GC bats heated up some more in the second game of the contest with three of the seven hits being moonshots over the fence. The long ball started in the top half of the second inning with a two-run shot from the senior Behan for her first of the season. Come the top of the fourth inning two more shots went over for two more runs for the Bobcats. Jessica Owens (Social Circle) led the inning off with a solo shot for her first of the season. Behan followed directly after with her second long ball of the contest.
Katilyn Anders (Makanda, Illinois) got the start and the loss in the circle for GC in game one. Anders (0-2) went two innings allowing six runs on seven hits. The Bobcats cycled through two relievers to finish the contest.
Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina) got the start and the loss in the circle for the second contest. Thrower (2-9) went three and a third innings allowing four runs on six hits and three strikeouts.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday April 29 against Augusta University at the Peeler Complex. This will be the senior day contest for GC with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. with live stats and video links available at GCBobcats.com.
