MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 68 Georgia College Men's Tennis team (6-8, 1-4 PBC) posted its first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win of the season Friday, beating No. 67 Young Harris College (5-10, 0-4 PBC) 4-3 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats won the doubles point with victories on the first and third lines. Sebastian Nunez (Buford) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) beat Janis Auslands and Eric DelValle by shutout in the first slot. In third doubles, Gabriel Cizek (Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic) and Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) teamed for a 6-2 win over Pieke Bouman and Romeo Luque.
The Bobcats added points from the top three singles slots to escape with the win. Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) beat Bouman on the top line, 6-0, 7-5. Cizek grabbed a singles win over Rodrigo Mendoza 6-2, 6-4 in second singles. Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) had a battle with Chimo Minguez Ribera in third singles. Minguez Ribera took the first set 6-4. Komada rebounded with a tough 7-6[8-6] win in set two, then blitzed the final set 6-1 for the win.
In fourth singles, Villamizar Abia lost to Auslands 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) lost to Luque in a pair of 6-3 sets in fifth singles. Ben Grunert (Roswell) came up short in a 6-4, 6-4 bout with DelValle.
The win puts GC at 1-4 in PBC play, positioned sixth in the league standings. The Bobcats have a lone conference matchup remaining on the schedule, with the top six teams qualifying for the conference tournament April 29.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m., traveling to No. 12 Lander University.
