MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Morgan Amrozowicz and
Ellie Fuller led the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team's record-setting night as the Bobcats shut out Albany State University 9-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Wednesday (Oct. 11) evening at Bobcat Field.
GCSU improved to 6-4-2 overall and to 3-2-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Golden Rams fell to 1-9-1 and 0-4-1. The Bobcats remain at home to face Columbus State University in a 3 p.m. league match Saturday (Oct. 14). GCSUÂ will recognize its seniors prior to the match.
The nine goals was a program record, surpassing the eight goals scored against Erskine College in 2006 and against Georgia Southwestern State University in 2014. The seven assists recorded by the Bobcats was one off the program mark. The 37 GCSU shots rank as eighth-most in a match.
Amanda Dewey collected nine shots, which is seventh in record book for shots in a match.
The Bobcats scored twice in the opening 45 minutes, while GCSU poured it on in the second half as they scored seven times on the rainy night.
GCSU got the scoring underway as Fuller crossed the ball to Amrozowicz, who put the ball in the top right corner in the sixth minute. Fuller assisted on the second goal as her corner kick found
Carter Drake at the left post 10 minutes later and Drake headed it in for a 2-0 lead.
Fuller opened the second-half scoring attack with an unassisted goal that ricocheted off Albany State goalkeeper at the 51:50 mark. Amrozowicz scored her second goal of the match in the 61st minute off a
Katherine Crouse cross.
Abbey Eison,
Mia Palumbo,
Zelia Griffith, Dewey and
Sara Schultz also found the back of the net for GSCU, while Palumbo,
Lauren Dozier, Griffith and Dewey tallied assists.
Madison Drake and
Sarah Charney combined on the shutout for the Bobcats. Drake registered both saves for GCSU.
