Bobcats have a block party in 3-1 loss to Eagles with 22 block assists

AIKEN, S.C.- Georgia College & State University Volleyball had a block party despite loss to Carson-Newman University putting up 22 block assists.

GCSU fell to 11-12 on the season while Carson-Newman improved to 9-10. Georgia College return to action Tuesday, Oct. 17 on the road at Shorter University at 6 p.m.

The Bobcats started the match strong as they took the first set at an impressive 25-10 margin. Come the second and third sets, they kept the games close but lost 25-23 and 25-20. The fourth and final set settled in favor of the Eagles, 25-17. 

Two Bobcats hit in the double digits during the neutral site contest. Rachel Machovec had 13 and Camryn Carlton had 10 as the teams kill leaders. Mary Kate Kotzin added eight and Callie Miller added six. Riese Johnson led the assisting effort picking up 32 of the teams 37 on the afternoon. 

The great wall of Bobcats made their presence known at the net with a solo block and 22 block assists. Kotzin and Carlton led the blocking brigade with six block assists each. Brooke Roberts had an outstanding match as se had the lone solo block as well as five block assists. Roberts also added four kills to her night. GCSU had a stellar match in the digs category as well with Machovec and Johnson having the second most with 14 to add another double-double to each of their season. Miller led the dig effort with 18 and Alvarez had 11.
