Bobcats down Hawks in midweek contest 3-1

ROME, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University volleyball team took down Shorter University 3-1 in the Tuesday (Oct. 17)  evening road contest  at the Winthrop-King Centre. 

The Bobcats improved to 12-12 on the season, while the Hawks fell to 4-15. GCSU took the first set 25-15 but dropped the second set 25-19. They fired back and took sets two and three 25-21 and 25-14. GCSU is back in action Oct. 27 in the Centennial Center against Middle Georgia State University at 6 p.m.

Rachel Machovec led the squad in both kills and digs on the night earning her 13th double-double of the season. She picked up 11 kills and 19 digs. Camryn Carlton and Abbey Infante added nine and seven kills, respectively on the evening as the team's second and third kill leaders. Brooke Roberts was not far behind them as she added five kills of her own to round out the offense. Setter Riese Johnson led the assists with an impressive 30 assists while setter Lilly Swanson had eight. 

As a team the Bobcats had 45 digs on the night with 19 coming from Machovec. Olivia Alvarez had the second most with nine while Callie Miller added seven for the third most. Johnson rounded out the dig efforts with six. GCSU had an impressive night at the net with solo blocks and 10 block assists. Roberts tied her career high of three solo blocks in the out of conference match. Machovec and Roberts led the team with three block assists each. Infante rounded out the blocking with two block assists.
