MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University volleyball team had a dominant performance - including
Riese Johnson's 1,000th assist - to take down Middle Georgia State University in straight sets Thursday (Oct. 26) evening at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats improved to 13-12 on the season, while the Knights fell to 4-12. GCSU took the first set 25-9, the second set 25-20 and the third set 25-13. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Oct. 28) in Central, South Carolina, to take on Southern Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.
The Bobcat offense was electric in the three-set win with two players having double digit kills and several others contributing.
Camryn Carlton picked up her career high in kills leading the team with 13.
Rachel Machovec picked up her 14th double-double of the season having the second most kills on the match with 12.
Mary Kate Kotzin added five kills with
Brooke Roberts and
Callie Miller both adding four each. Johnson picked up her 1000th career assist on her first assist of the evening. She picked up 34 to lead the team while also leading the team in services with three.
The Bobcat defense was lights out with 43 digs, 14 block assists, and two solo blocks. Machovec led the team in digs with 15. Johnson and
Olivia Alvarez had the second most with seven and
Kyeli Hazzard added six. The blocking effort was spread among five different players. Roberts and Kotzin led the charge both having three block assists and a solo block each. Carlton and Machovec also picked up blocks on the night with two and three respectively.
