MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University volleyball team took a tough three-set Peach Belt Conference loss to Augusta University Tuesday (Oct. 31) evening at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The first set went to Augusta at a 25-20 margin, and the second set at 25-15. The Bobcats tried to rally against the Jaguars to claim the third set, but fell 28-26.
The Bobcats fell to 14-13 overall and to 1-8 in the conference, while the Jaguars improved to 21-4 and 7-1. GCSU will play again Friday (Nov. 3) when they host Lander University in a 6 p.m. PBC match in the Centennial Center.
With her 16th double-double of the season,
Rachel Machovec led the team in kills with 14.
Mary Kate Kotzin had the second most with six.
Rosa Fisher rounded out the kill leaders having three. As a team, GCSU had 30 assists with setter,
Riese Johnson, nabbing 27 of those.
In the digs category, the Bobcats kept 58 balls off of the ground with three players in the double-digits. Libero
Olivia Alvarez, led the effort with 14. Machovec and Johnson both added 12 each for the second most on the team. Right-side hitter
Kyeli Hazzard, rounded out the dig leaders with seven. The Bobcats had a successful day at the net with two solo blocks and 10 block assists. Kotzin was the lead blocker with three block assists and a solo block. Machovec had the other solo block on the night, while
Callie Miller had three block assists of her own to tie the team high for the match.
