Late goal leads Clayton State to 2-1 win over GCSU

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Carrie Consolino scored a goal with under five minutes to lead Clayton State University to a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Georgia College & State University Wednesday (Oct. 4) evening at Bobcat Field.

The Lakers improved to 3-4-2 overall and to 2-3-0 in the PBC, while the Bobcats fell to 4-4-2 and 1-2-1. Georgia College returns to action Saturday (Oct. 7) with a 3:30 p.m. league match in Aiken, South Carolina, against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.
 
After scoreless first half, Clayton State struck first at the 57:41 mark as Amiah Sprunger-Hightower scored from the right corner of the field and put the ball into the top left corner of the net. The goal was set up by an Ida Ditlevsen cross.

The Bobcats leveled the match at 1 in the 66th minute. Taylor Salvaggio knocked in a rebound of Sydney Charles' original shot that the CSU goalkeeper couldn't corrall. It was her first goal of 2023.

The Lakers outshot GCSU 21-11, including a 10-2 margin on goal. The Bobcats tallied six corner kicks, while the Lakers had five.

Madison Drake stopped a career-high eight goals in the GCSU net.
