TAMPA | Austin Sloan led a balanced Georgia College & State University attack with 23 points as the Bobcats held off the University of Tampa 86-80 in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon at the Martinez Center.
The Bobcats, who play their first 11 games on the road, remained unbeaten as they improve to 4-0, while the Spartans slipped to 2-2. GCSU returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 21) when they travel to Fort Valley, Georgia, for a 7 p.m. contest against Fort Valley State University.
Sloan paced the Bobcats as he went 9-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from long distance to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
Richard Crawford III tallied 20 points and connected on three three-points to go along with five assists, while
Zyair Greene hit four three-pointers and finished with 16 points.
Brendan Rigsbee also finished in double figures with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
The Bobcats took their largest lead of the game - 14 points (56-42) - after Rigsbee sank two free throws with 16:30 remaining in the game. Tampa cut the margin down to three (65-62) on a Myles Hunter dunk with 10:14 to go. The defense then stiffened and held Tampa scoreless for five minutes, 56 seconds as GCSU pushed their lead back to double figures at 12 points (78-66) on two free throws from
Aidan Kudlas with 2:36 on the clock.
