FORT VALLEY, Ga. | Ian Davis scored 16 pounts to lead four Georgia College & State University scorers in double figures as the Bobcats remained perfect with a 72-67 non-conference men's basketball victory over Fort Valley State University Tuesday (Nov. 21) evening at the HPE Arena.
The Bobcats, who are ranked No. 9 in the Southeast region in the D2CSC Media Poll, improved to 5-0. The 5-0 start is the best start for Georgia College since the 2009-10 campaign. GCSU, which plays its first 11 games on the road, returns to action Nov. 29 when they travel to Central, South Carolina, to face Southern Wesleyan University in a 7 p.m. game. The Wildcats remained winless in five attempts.
The game was a tight affair as neither team led by no more than five points the entire contest with 13 ties and six lead changes.
After Fort Valley State tied the game at 60 after Jahlen Jack connected on a jumper in the paint with 4:01 to play, GCSU used a 7-2 run to take a 67-62 lead on a three-pointer by
Jake Mooney with 2:16 to go. Davis had given the Bobcats the lead for good on a layup.
The Wildcats closed the deficit to one point (68-67) after Myson Lowe hit a three-pointer with 43 seconds left.
Richard Crawford III sealed the win for Georgia College as he sank four free throws in the final 21 seconds.
Davis scored his points in just 17 minutes of action on 6-of-12 shooting. Crawford added 13 points and nine rebounds, while
Brendan Rigsbee tallied 11 points and nine rebounds. Mooney also finished in double figures with 10.
Aidan Kudlas added nine points and six rebounds for the Bobcats.
