Lions hand No. 25 Bobcats first loss of the season

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Kelvin Jones and Kendall Latney combined for 53 points as Emmanuel (Ga.) University picked up a 79-64 non-conference men's basketball victory over No. 25 Georgia College & State University Wednesday (Dec. 6) evening at the Shaw Athletic Center.

The Lions improved to 6-3, while the Bobcats fell to 6-1. GCSU, which play its first 11 games on the road, travel to Albany, Georgia, for a 4 p.m. contest against Albany State University Saturday (Dec. 9).

The Lions broke open the game midway through the opening half as they reeled off 14 unanswered points over a four-minute stretch as they took a 32-10 lead on a Trell Washington layup with 5:40 to play.

The closest the Bobcats would get the remainder of the game would be 14 points.

Brady Spence, who was 6-of-10 from the field, led the Bobcats with 14 points and six rebounds, while Brendan Rigsbee added 10 points and six rebounds for GCSU, which only shot 37.7 percent (26-of-69) from the field, including 2-of-19 from long distance. Emmanuel held a 43-26 advantage on the glass. Georgia College scored 23 points off 19 Lion turnovers.
