MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University women's basketball team took a tough home loss to No. 9-ranked University Tampa in front of 2,800 fans on Education Day Thursday (Dec. 7) afternoon at the Centennial Center.
GCSU fell to 5-3 on the season, while the Spartans improved to 9-2. The Bobcats are back in action Dec. 19 for a 2 p.m. contest in Gaffney, South Carolina, against Limestone University.
Despite the loss the Bobcat offense was hot with three double-digit scorers.
Alexa Geary iced 17 points, which is good for her season high, to lead the offense. She went 5-for-11 from behind the three-point arc and knocked down two free throws.
Hannah Cail was the teams second leading scorer with 11 points. Cail nailed five field goals included a long range bucket.
Dashaun Jackson rounded out the double digit scoring going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and banked two field goals.
Ashyia Willis just missed the double digit mark with a nine point game with four short range jumpers. She also led the team in assists picking up five.
The Bobcats out rebounded the Spartans 43-39.
Cierra Foster lead the squad in rebounding as she nabbed eight with four coming under each basket. Cail and Willis had the second and third most with six and five respectively. All of Cail's rebounds came on the defensive half of the floor. There were also four Bobcats that picked up four rebounds each. Jackson tied her career high in blocked shots with three.
