Saints rally for 58-55 decision over Bobcats

GAFFNEY, S.C. | The Georgia College & State University women's basketball team hit the road Wednesday (Dec. 19) afternoon to take on Limestone University and fell 58-55 as the Saints rallied in the fourth quarter at the Timpken Center. 

GCSU fell to 5-4 on the season, while Limestone improved to 6-5. The Bobcats return to action Dec.  30 in the Centennial Center at 1 p.m. to take on Albany State University. 

The Bobcats got off to a hot start fresh off the bus, outscoring the Saints 23-13 in the first 10 minutes of play. Limestone matched the 23 point spot by outscoring the Bobcats 23-9 in the second quarter and leading 36-32 going into the half.

After halftime, GCSU came out and put up 14 points to the Saints eight to lead 46-44 going into the final 10 minutes of the contest. The Bobcats extended their lead to 53-46 with 7:52 remaining in the game on a Hannah Cail jumper, but they were outscored 12-2 to end the game. GCSU went scoreless the final 5:43 of the game and missed their final 12 field goal attempts.

Cail lead the GCSU offense, icing 15 points on seven field goals. Myra Strickland knocked down the second most points with 10 with two buckets behind the three point arc. Ashyia Willis served as the team's third leading scorer with eight points. Willis and Cierra Foster led the team in assists with two each. 

Despite the loss, GCSU out rebounded Limestone 48-45. Jada Warren and Dashaun Jackson both nabbed an outstanding 11 rebounds on the afternoon. Warren had seven under the Bobcat basket for second chance points and Jackson claimed four offensive rebounds. On the defensive side of the ball, Jackson prevented the Saints from regaining possession with seven defensive rebounds while Warren contributed four. Jackson and Warren also contributed six and two points, respectively. Cail was the third leading rebounder with six all coming under the Limestone bucket.
