Bobcats bring in new year with 88-53 win over Golden Rams

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. |  The Georgia College & State University women's basketball team picked up a massive home win over Albany State University 88-53 Saturday (Dec. 30) afternoon inside the Centennial Center. 

GCSU improved to 6-4 on the season, while ASU fell to 1-14. The Bobcats hung two 23 spots in the first half of play going into the half leading 46-32. GCSU solidified the win with two 21-point quarters in the second half to take the 88-53. The Bobcats are back in action January 3 at 5:50 p.m. to kick off conference play at Columbus State University. 

GCSU had the hot hands today with six double-digit scorers. As a team, GCSU shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field, 50 percent (13-of-26) from behind the arc and 100 percent (7-of-7) from the free throw line. Hannah Cail led the scoring effort netting 16 points going 7-for-15 from field goal range. Myra Strickland was close to perfect on the afternoon as the team's second leading scorer icing 14 points. Strickland went 6-for-7 from the field with a perfect 2-for-2 performance from the arc. Jaleah Storr and Nylah Nuri both had stellar days off the bench, dropping 12 points each. Storr,was 5-for-9  from the floor,including two buckets from three-point range. Nuri, a freshman, had her best performance of the season with a perfect day behind the arc and going 4-for-5 overall. Miracle Parker and Ashyia Willis rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Parker had a phenomenal day going 4-for-6 including a three-point basket. Willis also had a fantastic day going 4-for-5 with a 2-for-2 three-point performance. GCSU also had a plethora of assists on the afternoon with 26. Cierra Foster lead that effort picking up eight. 

The Bobcats had 28 more rebounds than the Golden Rams with the teams going 50-22, respectively. Dashaun Jackson led the rebounding nabbing 10, eight of which came under the Albany State basket. She also added six points to her box score. Jada Warren had the second most with nine all of which came on the defensive half of the ball. Amelia Wylly picked up her career high of six rebounds - five of which came defensively.
