COLUMBUS, Ga. | The
Georgia College & State University women's basketball team opened up Peach Belt Conference play Wednesday (Jan. 3) evening against Columbus State University with a 102-67 loss at the Lumpkin Center.
GCSU fell to 6-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. CSU improved to 5-4 on the season and 1-0 in PBC play. GCSU will continue conference play Saturday (Jan 6) at 1:30 p.m. for the PBC home opener against the University of South Carolina-Aiken in the Centennial Center.
The Cougars scored 18 unanswered points in the first quarter which ultimately led to their win. Despite the slow start for the Bobcats, there were three double-digit scorers on the evening. Mrya Strickland was the hot shooter as she led the team with 16 points coming on six field goals and two three-point buckets.
Hannah Cail had the second most points, icing 11. Cail was atop the assisting effort with three tied with
Cierra Foster.
Alexa Geary banked 10 points in the contest as the third leading scorer.
The Bobcats were dynamic in the rebound effort on the road nabbing 50 rebounds to the Cougar's 33.
Jada Warren was unstoppable under the baskets as she coraled her career high of 17 rebounds. Warren picked up 11 under the Bobcat basket and three doubled as points for Warren as she added six points to her box score.
Dashaun Jackson also picked up her career high in the blue and green snagging 12 rebounds. Jackson had an even spread with six under each basket. Three of Jackson's offensive rebounds turned into buckets for herself. Jackson also had a great day at the free throw line shooting 75 percent to add to her nine point performance. Jackson also made her presence known on defense picking up three blocked shots, good for her career high.
