GCSU Women's Tennis Beats Clark Atlanta by Shutout

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis Team (3-0) continued their impressive performance on the road this season by sweeping Clark Atlanta University (2-2) today 7-0. The Bobcats start the season 3-0 for the second straight year.

The pairing of Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) won in first doubles against Madison Moffat and Gabrielle Blanks, 6-3. The pairing of Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) clinched the doubles point with a win in the second slot, beating Shani Idlette and Anaiah Jones 6-1. Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Athlete of the Week Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) got the run started in third doubles defeating their opponents Shereese Henry and Jumai Muhammed handedly in a 6-0 match. It was the team's first sweep at doubles this season.

Shing continued to dominate in the first singles match, sweeping her opponent Kristen Blount 6-0, 6-0. The next finish came on the sixth line, where freshman Ansley Morrison (Cumming) won her first dual match over Jones 6-0, 6-1. Sister Ashton Morrison followed on the fourth line against Keynon Thompkins winning 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the team victory.

On the fifth line, Laura Almagro (Marbella, Spain) played her first singles match of the spring season for the Bobcats and won over Gabrielle Blanks 6-1, 6-2. In second singles, Santoro beat Muhammed 6-2, 6-0. Chhabra closed the match on the third line, secured a win over Idlette 6-3, 6-2.

The Bobcats' next match is at home against Newberry, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
