COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Men's Tennis team (3-2) beat the University of Montevallo (0-3) 5-2 Sunday, as the two teams met at Columbus State University in a neutral-site matchup.
The Bobcats got the doubles point with rapid victories on the first two lines. In first doubles, Gabe Cizek (Prague, Czech Republic) and Luca Sauer Jimenez (Nyon, Switzerland) beat Jules Dugue and Paul Sobich 6-3.
Second doubles saw Sebastian Nuñez (Buford) and Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) make short work of Dylan Kamel and Julius Ziebart, 6-1. In third doubles, Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) and Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) lost to Philippe Zehender and Fabricio Sosa-Pons.
GCSU extended its lead with the first singles match to finish, as Malirz beat Ziebart in a shutout at the second slot. The Falcons got their first point with the next finish, a 6-3, 6-0 win for Sosa-Pons over Marcello Rocha Moreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Sauer Jimenez got the Bobcats back on track in the third slot, a 7-5, 6-1 win over Dugue.
Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) clinched the team victory in fourth singles, taking down Sobich 6-4, 6-3. Komada then fell to Viktor Ek Johansson 7-6[5], 6-4 in the fourth slot. Cizek closed out the day with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 marathon win over Zehender in first singles.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m., hosting Converse College.
