MOBILE, Ala. – Taking four of the six singles results, the No. 21 Georgia College & State University Men's Tennis team (6-3) won a thriller at Spring Hill College (7-3) 4-3 Monday.
The Bobcats dropped the doubles point, as SHC won in the first and second slots. Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) and Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) teamed for the Bobcat win, a shutout over Noe Hauschildt and Will Huckell. The Bobcat duo evened out its record on the season at 3-3
Both the losses for GCSU were 7-6[3] results. On the top line, Gabe Cizek (Prague, Czech Republic) and Luka Sauer Jimenez (Nyon, Switzerland) fell to PaulPhilipp Kern and Tom Gutermann. The Bobcat second doubles pair of Sebastian Nuñez (Buford, Georgia) and Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) also lost to Charles Wallace and Sebastien Torres.
The Bobcats evened things out with the first singles result, as Sauer Jimenez beat Wallace 6-3, 6-1 in fourth singles. Next came a 6-0, 6-3 win for Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) in the sixth slot over Huckell. The match evened back out to 2-2 after the next singles result, a Bobcat loss on the top line as Cizek fell short 7-6[6], 6-4 to Hauschildt.
Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) slid up to second singles for the first time and gave Gutermann a struggle in a 7-6[5], 7-5 loss for the Bobcat junior. Sergi pulled the match even with a 6-4, 6-7[6], 6-3 marathon win over Kern in the fifth slot. With the team victory on the line, Komada took on Rafael Lima. Komada outlasted his counterpart in a 6-0, 6-7[4], 6-4 matchup to clinch the Bobcat victory.
Sauer Jimenez takes over the team lead in victories at 6-2. Komada is now one behind at 5-2, while Villamizar Abia stays perfect at 3-0 in singles play this season. Sergi improves to 3-1 thi season and was the lone Bobcat to go 2-0 in today's action.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 14 at 9 a.m. eastern, playing at No. 8 University of West Alabama.
