MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga – The No. 11 Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis squad (11-1, 1-0 PBC) defeated Augusta University (7-10, 0-3 PBC) 6-1 at home Wednesday.
Kicking off the doubles play for the Bobcats, the Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) pair matched up against Madeline Frediani and Priscilla Landi on the first line and won 6-1. Finishing next, Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) faced Carlota Costa and Silvana Figueroa on the third line and brought another 6-1 win and secured the doubles point for the Bobcats.
Following the win at doubles, Shing started the singles play for the Bobcats on the first line defeating Andrea Gonzalez 6-1, 6-0. Santoro followed next on the fourth line facing Figueroa winning 6-2, 6-2 to put the Bobcats on the brink of victory over the Jaguars. Securing the win for the Bobcats, Fleming defeated Juliana Martinez on the third line 6-3, 6-4.
Chhabra followed on the sixth line and put the GCSU Women even further ahead winning 6-2, 6-2. Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) faced off against Frediani in a tough three-set match but fell 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Ashton Morrison (Cumming) finished the day for the Bobcats playing Landi in a long three-set match and winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-6. The final match score was 6-1 favoring the Bobcats.
The Bobcats next match will be on the road to face Savannah State University Thursday, March 23. The first serve is set for 12 p.m.
