Bobcat Men's Tennis Takes Back-To-Back Home Matches with 6-1 Win Over Catawba

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Men's Tennis team (5-2) completed a perfect home back-to-back weekend with a 6-1 win Sunday over Catawba College (1-4).

The Bobcats took the doubles point for the second time this weekend, with wins from the first and second lines. Finishing first for the Bobcats in doubles play, the pair of Jack Sorel (Alpharetta) and Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) matched up against Paul Dekester and Sebastian Zabala on the third line and unfortunately lost 6-3. The pair of Gabe Cizek (Prague, Czech Republic) and Luka Sauer Jimenez (Nyon, Switzerland) faced Ryan Little and Tyler Juergens on the first line and won 6-3 to tie the doubles series for the Bobcats. Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) and Sebastian Nuñez (Buford) matched up against Taketoshi Nanao and Marcos Castares and secured the doubles point for the GCSU Men, winning 6-3.

Kicking off the singles play for the Bobcats, Sauer Jimenez faced off against Little on the fourth line winning 6-1, 6-1. Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) finished next on the second line winning over Kane Elkin 6-0, 6-2 putting the Bobcats on the brink of victory over Catawba. Cizek followed on the first line playing Castares losing 6-1, 6-3.

Villamizar Abia won the match for the Bobcats with his 6-0, 6-0 sweep on the sixth line over Luca Ricciardi. Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) finished next facing Juergens on the third line winning a three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Aurélien Arlot (Paris, France) finished the day for the Bobcats winning on the fifth line over Dekester 4-6, 6-1, 10-6.

The Bobcats will be back in action Tuesday, March 7, when they travel to Auburn University at Montgomery. The first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
