Upset Minded Bobcat Men's Tennis Downs #45 Young Harris, 4-0

PBC STANDINGS

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Men's Tennis team (7-8, 1-3 PBC) picked up a win over a ranked opponent and the team's first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victory of the season all in one swoop Saturday, beating No. 45 Young Harris College (10-8, 0-4 PBC) 4-0 on the road.

The Bobcats got the doubles point with wins in the first two matches to finish, the second and third slots. Senior Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) and junior Sebastian Nuñez (Buford) beat Rodrigo Mendoza and Chimo Minguez Ribera 6-4 in the second slot. The second doubles pair for GCSU is now 5-6 this season.

In third doubles, junior Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) and sophomore Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) improved to a team-best 6-4 with a 6-4 victory over Gavin Thomas and Mason Harmon.

The first singles result came on the top line, where sophomore Gabe Cizek (Prague, Czech Republic) beat Pieke Bouman 6-1, 7-5. In second singles, Malirz topped Mendoza with a pair of 6-3 sets. Junior Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) clinched the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 marathon in fifth singles.

Cizek is now 8-6 on the season. Malirz is tops on the team at 9-5, while Robinson improves his mark to 6-8.

The win puts the Bobcats at 1-3 in PBC play this season, tied for sixth with two matches left to go.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, April 16 at 2 p.m., hosting No. 18 University of North Georgia for Bobcat Senior Day.
