#14 Bobcat Women's Tennis Blanked at #25 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 14 Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis team (18-3, 5-2 PBC) lost their regular-season finale at No. 25 Columbus State University (12-5, 5-2 PBC) 7-0 Tuesday.

CSU nabbed the doubles point with wins in the first and third slots. In first doubles, Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) lost to national No. 40 pairing Mariana Ramirez and Sara Ramirez 6-3. The third line brought a 6-3 loss as well, as Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) fell to Agostina Bigotti and Nickoline Gullacksen.

Bobcat second doubles took the team's lone victory of the day, as junior Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and sophomore Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) took a 6-4 bout from Yelena Labat and Inma Ramon.

First singles was a 6-2, 6-3 loss for Shing to No. 47 Mariana Ramirez. Second singles saw Young drop a pair of 6-3 sets to Ramon. In third singles, Fleming lost to Luciana Galves 6-1, 6-3.

In fourth singles, Santoro fell in a three-setter with Gullacksen, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The fourth slot was a loss for Morrison to Laura Pesickova 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Sixth singles also went the distance, as Chhabra lost to Labat 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.  

The loss brings a close to the regular season for the Bobcats, as they tied CSU for second place in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) standings at 5-2. GCSU takes the No. 3-seed for the PBC Tournament and will face No. 6-seed Augusta University in the opening round Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m.
