COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 11 Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis team (19-4) fell 4-0 to No. 12 University of North Georgia (14-5) in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Semifinals Saturday at Columbus State University.
The No. 3-seed Bobcats are eliminated from the PBC Tournament, while No. 2-seed UNG will advance to the final, taking on No. 1-seed Flagler College tomorrow, April 22 at 1 p.m.
The Nighthawks nabbed the doubles point, getting wins in the first and second slots. Second doubles wrapped up first, a loss for Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) 6-1 to Svetlana Teterina and Angelina Linnikova.
The Bobcats drew things even with a win in the third slot, as Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) teamed for a 6-2 win over Valentina Ascarrunz and Ashley Moinard. First doubles decided the point, as Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) lost to Viktorie Wojcikova and Johanna Lippert in a tough 7-5 battle.
In third singles, Fleming came up short against Anna Markvartova in a pair of 6-1 sets. Next to finish was sixth singles, where Chhabra dropped a 6-2, 6-0 bout with Teterina. The match wrapped up in fifth singles, as Morrison fell to Moinard 6-1, 6-1.
The Bobcats now await at-large announcements to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament. The GCSU Women were fourth in the most recent poll, released April 18.
