Bobcat Softball Stumbles in Series Opener With GSW, 7-1

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball (26-20, 12-13 PBC) takes a hard 7-1 loss to Georgia Southwestern State University (36-15, 17-8 PBC), Monday afternoon. 

The Bobcat offense had seven knocks on the day but none could be strung together to push runs around. Jessica Owens (Social Circle) and Mackenzie Martin (Dacula) picked up the first two hits of the day on a single and a double respectively in the first inning. Both Owens and Martin went 1-for-3 on the contest. 

The next set of hits for GCSU would come in the third inning on two singles by Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville) and Emily Hobbs (Thomasville). E. Hobbs went 1-for-3 and K. Hobbs went 2-for-3 with a double in the home half of the seventh inning. 

Ashley Schell (Cumming) and Lauren Sommerer (Loganville) both had a 1-for-3 performance on the night having back-to-back singles in the fourth inning. 

Stephanie Condland (Hoschton) had the lone RBI of the drawing a bottom of the seventh inning walk to make it a 7-1 final. 

Jana Shellhorse (McDonough) got the start and the loss in the circle. Shellhorse (10-8) pitched four innings with three runs coming around to score on six hits. Kaitlyn Anders (Makanda, Ill.) closed the game pitching three innings with four runs coming around on five hits.

The Bobcats are set to close the series with GSW Tuesday, April 25 with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. Live stats and broadcast links are available at GCBobcats.com.
