#12 Bobcat Women's Tennis Dominates Georgia Southwestern, 7-0

PBC STANDINGS

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 12 Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis team (15-2, 3-1 PBC) shutout Georgia Southwestern State University (1-8, 0-4 PBC) Thursday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility, matching last season's win total in the process.

GCSU took the doubles point with a sweep. Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) teamed for a 6-1 win over Geanna Richard and Sofya Kanarskya in the first slot.

Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) also won 6-1 in second doubles, beating Lina Benjelloun and Maya Boynton in second doubles. Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) shut out their third doubles counterparts of Easton Cummings and Emily McClure.

Freshman Laura Almagro (Marbella, Spain) got the singles results going with a shutout in the sixth slot over Cummings. Next came a 6-0, 6-2 win for classmate Ansley Morrison (Cumming) in fifth singles against McClure. Shing clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Kanarskya on the top line.

In fourth singles, Chhabra blanked Richard, then came a 6-3, 6-2 win for Ashton Morrison at third singles over Boynton. Santoro closed the day at second singles, shutting down Benjelloun 6-4, 6-3.

The GCSU Women now have 15 victories on the season, matching the 2022 final wins mark of 15-7. The nine shutouts this season also matches last season's total. There are four matches left in the regular season.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, April 11 at 2 p.m., traveling to the University of West Georgia.
