MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Executive Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Wendell Staton has announced a leadership change for the softball program.

Jamie Grodecki has resigned her position as head softball coach and current assistant coach Kenneth Bellamy has been elevated to interim head coach for the season.

"I appreciate Kenneth and the positive leadership he will provide as the interim head coach," said Staton. "Kenneth knows our culture and is committed to providing an outstanding student-athlete experience. His prior experience as head coach at familiarity with the Peach Belt Conference will serve our student-athletes well."

Bellamy, who is entering his third season with the Bobcats, had served as the assistant softball coach for one season at NCAA Division I Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. While with the Bears, Mercer won 24 games and made it to the Southern Conference Tournament.

He served as the head coach at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie from 2012-20. During his tenure, Bellamy coached 19 all-region players who furthered their softball careers at four-year schools. Bellamy was named Coach of the Year twice (2017, 2019). The 2017 season ended with Salkehatchie earning the regular-season championship and the region tournament runner-up crown. Bellamy also led his team to a region tournament championship title.

"I would like to thank President Cathy Cox and Director of Athletics Wendell Staton for the opportunity to be interim head coach of the GCSU softball program.  I am very proud and excited to continue to grow the program that I have been a part of for the past two years."

Before his tenure as a junior college head coach Bellamy served as a volunteer assistant coach and interim head coach at Paine College.

Bellamy is a Beech Island, South Carolina native. He earned an associate degree at USC Salkehatchie, playing baseball there for two seasons. He continued his baseball career at Paine College where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English.
